Mandarin Culture Programs
School wide our curriculum is infused with information, comparisons, and thoughtful considerations of the Chinese culture. Primary through middle
school students learn basic Chinese phrases. Select middle school students use video conference distance learning to take daily intensive language and culture lessons
with a certified Chinese language teacher from Bishop Hartley High School.
On January 11, 2008 Trinty School video conferenced with Yong Chung Senior High School in Taipei, Taiwan. We exchanged information about music. The high school students
at Yong Chung performed for us demonstrating music played on traditional Chinese instruments. It was memorable.
On November 21st, 2008 our school hosted a troupe of acrobats from China who gave a performance to remember. See photos from the incredible performance, click here.
On December 17/18 Trinity School 6th and 7th grade Mandarin language students held a video conference with 6th grade English language students from the Shuanglian Elementary
School in Taipei, Taiwan. The time zone difference between Taiwan and Ohio is 13 hours so we were meeting with them live on Wednesday evening while it was early morning of December 18 at
their school. Here is a photo of our session. Some of the demonstrations that they shared with us were: their excellent command of
the English language which they are taught from the age of 7, beautiful calligraphy, and an exciting demonstration of the Chinese yoyo. We all discussed the similarities and differences
between our school lives for example, our school has 178 students and their school has over 1200 students, our school day is from 8:10-2:35 and their day goes from 7:30 to 4:30. Many things,
however are the same such as our love of sports, wearing uniforms and excitement over using video conference to make new friends.
